– It is best to plan a first birthday party with your guests in mind. If this is going to be a small get-together with a few other babies and toddlers, prepare an enclosed play area with age-appropriate toys and set up chairs around for other parents to sit, watch and chat. If you are inviting a larger number of guests who will be bringing kids of all ages, then you may want to set up some party games and/or a jumper, as well as hire a birthday party entertainer (specifically one who can do first birthday party entertainment, more on that below). The amount of food served and the cake size should also be chosen based on the number of guests you’re expecting.
– You will want to schedule a first birthday party around your child’s nap times to ensure they don’t need to sleep during the party and can enjoy the full celebration. Unless you’re inviting a lot of guests, a first birthday party should also be kept short at around 1 – 2 hours.
– Simple party staples like party hats, balloons, hanging paper/plastic decorations, banners, and fun invitation cards go a long way in creating a festive atmosphere for a first birthday party.
– Hire the right birthday party entertainer, a good amount of entertainers can serve parties for older kids but will struggle with (or not offer) first birthday party entertainment due to lack of appropriate material and experience with this age group.
